Tuscany in Winter: Cortona

In previous years I have had the occasion of visiting Tuscany in Spring, Summer and Autumn. This year I got to see it in Winter too (late December 2017).

Even though the weather can throw some punches at times, it is still a good time to visit (but not as a first visit).

There are no tourists fighting for selfies in that spot in front of that thing. You have complete freedom to move around and hang around.

Our first visit this Winter was Cortona, one of our favorite towns in Tuscany.

Cortona is a town and comune in the province of Arezzo, in Tuscany, Italy. It is the main cultural and artistic center of the Val di Chiana after Arezzo.

On this trip I decided to mostly use my Canon EF 70-200 mm 2,8 L IS II lens (instead of the usual 24-70), that’s why there are more close-ups and details than usual.

In Conclusion

We were able to do things in Winter that looked almost impossible during high season (April – October). Slowly eating ice-cream on the stairs in the center of Cortona, with the sun gently warming us up. No crowds, no rush, no feeling of ruining other people’s photos.

If you are “in love” with Tuscany and all that it means, then you have to visit at least once in Winter.
