A custom WordPress rebuild for Steinbergs Wildewiese, a 4-star nature hotel in Sauerland, with improved Core Web Vitals, GA4 tracking, MEWS integration, and cleaner content structure.

The previous Steinbergs Wildewiese website was built on WordPress using a commercial hotel theme. Although the site was still functional and responsive, the theme was almost 10 years old and had become a technical limitation.
It was not compatible with PHP 8, which made a serious update necessary. It also was not a good fit for the hotel’s content-heavy structure. The theme had been designed for simpler hotel websites, while Steinbergs Wildewiese needed room for a much broader hospitality offering.
Beyond hotel rooms, Steinbergs Wildewiese also includes a restaurant open to outside guests, a bar/pub, meeting rooms, event spaces, and a wedding venue. Each of these parts of the business needed enough space to be presented clearly, without being hidden inside a cramped hotel website structure.
Over time, the old content structure had also become patched together. Important information was duplicated across multiple pages, which made updates harder to manage and increased the risk of outdated or inconsistent content remaining live.
There were also technical SEO problems. Incorrect SEO settings had led to the existence of more than 1,000 thin or irrelevant pages, creating unnecessary indexation issues and weakening the quality of the website structure.
I rebuilt the website from scratch with a custom WordPress theme, consolidated the content, improved the navigation, fixed the technical SEO foundation, and created a more logical structure for both guests and search engines.
The new website also introduced proper Google Analytics 4 tracking, MEWS booking engine integration, and a cookie consent banner configured more carefully than the incomplete setups often seen on WordPress hotel websites.
The new website gives Steinbergs Wildewiese a cleaner structure for presenting the hotel, rooms, restaurant, events, nature, and future accommodation options.
Together, these pages show the new foundation: easier to browse, easier to manage, and better prepared for future content.

One of the key features of the new website is a custom full-screen menu designed for a content-rich hospitality business.
The menu opens into a two-column layout with a large full-height image on one side and the navigation on the other. Each menu item has its own related image, which appears on hover and makes the navigation feel more visual, polished, and engaging.
This gives Steinbergs Wildewiese enough room to present its hotel, restaurant, events, meetings, weddings, nature content, and future accommodation options without forcing everything into a cramped dropdown menu.
The old website was still responsive, but its technical performance had fallen behind. The new custom WordPress build significantly improved PageSpeed Insights results on both mobile and desktop.
These improvements also fixed the site’s Core Web Vitals issues, creating a faster and more reliable experience for visitors across devices.
Older WordPress hotel websites often still work on the surface, but hide deeper problems: outdated themes, weak performance, poor Core Web Vitals, duplicated content, missing analytics, and incomplete privacy setups.
I help hotels rebuild on a cleaner foundation with custom WordPress development, better structure, proper tracking, improved SEO, and a website that is easier to manage long-term.
