After organizing last year a private wine tasting at the Siena House B&B (Tuscany, Italy), we decided to try something similar this year, but this time with different wine, something more appropriate for a hot day in Tuscany.
After spending a couple of nights in the mountains in Davos and then Soelden, it was time to drive to the Italian countryside. We chose to take the more direct route from Soelden into Italy, specifically the Soelden – Bolzano route.
After Davos in Switzerland our next destination was Soelden, this time a ski resort in Austria. We decided to take the shortest, slowest and most beautiful path, straight through the mountains, going through the Fluela Pass. Flüela Pass (elevation 2383 m) is a high mountain pass in the Swiss Alps in the canton of Graubünden. The pass road connects Davos and Susch in the lower Engadin valley.
Berghotel Schatzalp is a historical building opened back in 1900. What started out as a unique treatment facility for rich tuberculosis patients, was converted into a luxury sanatorium in the 1950’s. To reach Schatzalp you take a funicular (free of charge for hotel customers) which takes you up for another 300 meters.
After spending 2 nights in Freiburg im Breisgau we headed out for Davos (Switzerland). At 1,560 m (5,120 ft), Davos is the highest city in Europe. The trip is 300km long and most of it is on the A3.
Freiburg im Breisgau is a city in Baden-Württemberg, Germany with a population of about 220,000. A famous old German university town, and archiepiscopal seat, Freiburg was incorporated in the early twelfth century and developed into a major commercial, intellectual, and ecclesiastical center of the upper Rhine region.
Munzingen is a small village and a part of Freiburg im Breisgau. The village is surrounded by lots of vineyards and has some amazing panoramic views. When staying for the night in locations like these you don’t want to stop at large hotels, it is much more satisfying to stop at B&Bs or family-run mini hotels. We were fortunate to discover the Vorgrimmler Winery and their amazing 2 apartments, available for booking via Airbnb.

This is the part of Dortmund where my wife and I (and our 8-months old son) decided to spend one summer month, starting July 15th. With a total population of 8.700 people, Asseln is a quiet and green district, but not […]
Almost 2 years ago I have published some HDR photos of an artificial lake in Dortmund – Phoenix-See. Now I got to see what goes on at the lake during a hot summer day. Lots and lots of young people + loud house/trance music = a ton of fun, unless you are with a baby […]
On 27th of July 2015 there was a tasting of Moldovan wines at the Vinarium Weinadvokat wine bar in Dortmund, Germany. The event was hosted and moderated by Carsten Jekubzik, owner of Weinadvokat.
